Hello!
My name is Ron Mills and I am the pastor of Riverton.
I arrived in the summer of 2004 to become part of what God is doing in this place.
Like everyone reading this page, I am the product of many and varied experiences. I am a Southerner, raised in the Carolinas – that laid back land of slow talkers and sweet tea. I am a husband and father, a musician, a dog owner, and a coffee lover. That doesn’t have much to do with being a pastor, but then again, it has everything to do with it! Here’s some pastor stuff:
My heritage and experience is Wesleyan. This means I’ve been influenced by the life and teachings of John and Charles Wesley by sharing life together in a congregation, by studying in small groups, and by consistently being part of a worshipping community.
My educational training is Wesleyan. I prepared for ordained ministry in graduate school at the Divinity School of Duke University, in Durham North Carolina. I was fortunate to sit under many learned teachers. This experience allowed me to connect with the wisdom that has guided God’s church through the ages, to appreciate the Church universal, and to value study and learning.
Finally, my choice is Wesleyan. For me, the way that John and Charles Wesley used the Holy Scriptures, thought about God and the Christian life, relied upon the Christian past to guide their present, evaluated their own experience of the Holy Spirit, and used the full weight of their reason to explore their faith is a very sound path on which to follow Jesus on my own and to lead others as a pastor.
What matters most to me in being a pastor is to cultivate a place where people experience the presence of God. I know that if that happens, the rest of life will unfold in all the right places.
I invite you to follow the river to the Life that is moving here at Riverton.
